Sunday night, a bunch of talented, elaborately dressed people won some fancy awards. Graham Moore gave an exceptionally inspirational speech and I, feeling no desire to be amongst them whatsoever, wrote about my blog award.
I am embarrassed to admit it, but on more than one occasion, I have envisioned myself wearing an elegant, Audrey Hepburn-esque evening gown as I waltz up the aisle to accept an award for being the most awesome person on the planet. Sometimes, my little fantasy involves me being surrounded by a gaggle of studly ballers who can’t stop ogling over how subtly funny and brilliant I am. That did not happen. I was wearing red flannel pajama pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt. But, I did get a nomination for the Premio Dardos Award from Psychologistmimi (albeit a week ago), and I am delighted.
Psychologistmimi writes a lot about, well, psychology. In particular, she writes about psychology in the workplace from a humorous and snarky point of view. Aside from beer and cookies, psychology and humor are two of my favorite things (she’s written about beer and desserts, too). She is one of my favorite bloggers.
In her post about the award, Mimi explained that Premio Dardos means “Prize Darts” in Spanish. The award is given to recognize the blogger’s various cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing.
Even though I didn’t accept this award at an extravagant awards ceremony wearing a gown the price of a used Toyota, I did get a prize dart from a writer I admire, and I did get to be surrounded by a husband who tells me how kind and beautiful he thinks I am. I was also rather comfortable in my hoody.
Thank you Psychologistmimi! I wanted to pass along her generosity to other bloggers and blogs I think embody the spirit of the Premio Dardos Award. 🙂

My most prestigious award ever. Even more exciting that my second place finish in the city high jump. (There were only two total jumpers!)

Hahaa! That sounds like a situation that I would be able to place 2nd in (only 2 participants) as well! I have a pretty hefty collection of “participant” ribbons, though…

Congrats on your award, and thank you so much for the nod! It’s always a treat to be thought of. And I think accepting an award in pajama pants and a hoodie is entirely acceptable. In fact, I’d be wearing them now if it wasn’t daytime. Who needs dresses that weigh fifty pounds or have necklines down to our bellybuttons? Give me comfort any day. 🙂

Thank you Carrie, and I agree! It seems like it would be dreadfully uncomfortable and hard to roam freely in a dress with a neckline down the the belly button! I appreciate fashion and style, but I also appreciate comfort. A nice hoody works for me! 🙂

You have just been awarded the Best Daughter Award, given only to those who wore “Cinderella” dresses when they were two years old and later graduated to sweatpants and hoodies, which are sooooo much better than any fancy dress worn at the
Academy Awards or anywhere else. I am VERY proud of you! 🙂

Thank you, mom! I am VERY proud to have you as my mom! I think that “Cinderella” pajamas might be a nice compromise! 😀

You are HILARIOUS. :0) Who needs the Oscars, eh?! And hey, for what it’s worth, I think we’ve ALL envisioned ourselves meekly making our way up to the Oscar podium- hand over our mouth in total shock and awe- smiling and laughing (more shock and awe) because we would never, ever, EVER imagine that we would be winning and Oscar. Nope. No clue as to what any of that would be like. [insert innocent-looking emoticon here]
Guilty!
And you know what’s probably better than actually winning an Oscar? Watching all of those ridiculous people trying to act “insignificant”. Now THAT’S comedy. 🙂 On a completely serious note, it’s not improbable at all that somebody like you could win an Oscar for your writing talent alone! (I can see you writing a screenplay and that sucker actually making it through, I really can.) I’ll go check out Mimi’s blog. (As you know, I’m all about psych!) x

Hahaa! Yay! I’m so glad to know I’m not in this “Oscar” fantasy alone! I have actually just added something to mine: I would go up there, put my hand over my mouth, try to shake away my overwhelming emotions, and thank YOU! You have given me so much encouragement and support. I don’t know how to express how much your comments and conversations mean to me! I still go back and read them when I catch myself feeling low. THANK YOU!! ❤
P.S. You were included on my list, too, but I remembered you mentioned you were super busy and didn't want to add any extra requirements. In fact, I think that should I ever be fortunate enough to receive a blog award again, I will that there is no pressure or requirements for the nominees. Just a nod of acknowledgement for other deserving bloggers as well 🙂

Aww, shucks. You don’t mean it 🙂 By the way, no matter how many new Oscars premieres I watch (and believe me, I watch them all!) nobody has been able to top Sally Fields’ “You like me!!” Haha.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_8nAvU0T5Y (One bad stumble on the way to the podium and her dress would have been the biggest mess ever.)

I proudly accept the award and this evening I am wearing an up and coming designer called Target. This lovely piece was inspired by bananas in pyjamas and is worn like a towel …. Ahem ok so I’m am actually wearing a blue and white striped towel but I am thankful all the same!! My first ever award! X
